The Scottish Highlands: Basically the most majestic place ever

The majority of Scotland's citizens live in the central belt between Glasgow and Edinburgh. The further north you go, the country becomes less populated and the landscape more dramatic.

We had a tour booked with Timberbush Tours through the Scottish highlands, with stops along Loch Lomond, Glen Coe, Loch Ness, and other gorgeous locations. After discovering the subway wasn't open until 10 when we tried to take it at 7:30 to make it to the bus by 8:00 in the city center, we found ourselves running into Glasgow to catch our bus.

Luckily we have speedy little legs (Terenzi is a track star after all) and we made it just in time. Our tour guide was friendly and didn't seem at all bothered by our narrow lateness.

Then began our tour through the most dramatic landscapes in Scotland.

Scotland has over 4,000 lochs, which are (sort of) what we would call a lake. Our first stop was at Loch Lomond, which was looking glorious with the sun rising above it.

We then made pit stops to admire Ben Lomond, Ben meaning mountain.

One of my favorite stops was next--our guide, Garry, told us he had a secret surprise for us all. He brought us to this little clearing a ways away from the Glen Coe ski resorts to feed the wild deer. I think I was by far the most excited person there.

Next we drove down the road featured in the most recent James Bond movie, Skyfall. Our tour guide would play music for us while he wasn't talking. How can you drive past scenery like this while listening to a bagpipes cover of Snow Patrol's Chasing Cars without feeling like you're in a movie?

After lunch, we made my other favorite stop. We fed the rest of our carrots to these ridiculously cute highland cattle! They've got hairy faces to keep them nice and warm.

When this little baby came galloping towards us, I actually squealed out loud because it was just too precious. I even made a friend!

Our next stop was at Loch Ness, (maybe) home to the famous Loch Ness Monster.

I couldn't find Nessie, unfortunately.

I did, however, find this cutie.

After another pit stop for some tea, we made our way back to Glasgow, driving through a national park at dusk, the mountains lit up eerily.
